The Cocoa Expo Sports Center has added a brand new W-League Women’s soccer franchise for the 2006 season. Head Coach James Kryger has also announced that the W-League Expos would like to give all of its fans and supporters the opportunity to email their favorite players all summer long. “Bringing a top level Women’s team to the community is a wonderful thing for Space Coast soccer and for the youth in the area, but it is now time to take our commitment to bettering our community to the next level” commented Kryger. “Our Ladies will not only showcase some of the best soccer in the world but will also provide our communities younger players with positive role models, something I think is greatly absent in today’s society”. Kryger’s vision of the game extends outside the sidelines. “We want our players to be directly connected with the players of tomorrow, providing them with leadership, vision and soccer based support”. Kryger encourages parents to bring their youngsters to the games and to stay around after the final whistle for post game signings. The Cocoa Expo offers free admission to all of its W-League games for anyone under the age of 19. The W-League Expos play all their home games in the newly designed soccer stadium on the grounds of the Cocoa Expo Sports Center. “Winning is obviously a top priority of the franchise this summer, but without a doubt this team is in place to better the community and give our local BYSL (Brevard Youth Soccer League) players a chance to play at the next level.

The first professional women's soccer league in the United States, currently named the W-League, got off to a very successful initial season in 1995. The league has continued to expand steadily, and within the last five years competition has become fierce. It has endured the challenge created as the Women’s United Soccer Association, a pro circuit, took the field. Since the termination of the WUSA, the W-league has assumed a more important position in the world of women’s soccer. The W-League currently provides the most complete women’s player pool in the world. It is recognized as North America’s best women’s developmental organization. It is an open league, giving college players the opportunity to play alongside established international players while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
